FLOC LA Volunteers with the LA Regional Food Bank

On Saturday, July 30th, 23 FLOC members gathered among hundreds at the LA Regional Food Bank for our first-ever volunteering event in Los Angeles.   For three hours, we FLOCers dragged, lifted, kicked, pulled, pushed, and packed crate after crate full of cereal boxes, peanut butter, and canned goods. All in all, over 3,600 meals were prepared, averaging about 20 meals per minute!    It was a great to be a part of such a huge collective effort to help out the community.

A handful of FLOCers grabbed brunch at Homegirl Café to celebrate the occasion.

Thanks to everyone who came to help, and for donating nearly 80 hours of service.

We’d like to extend a special thank you to LA Food Bank staffers Michael Espe and Marie Carpenter for helping us coordinate this awesome experience!

Read a testimonial from FLOCer Lisa Sequeira:

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to volunteer at the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank with other members of FLOC- Future Leaders of Our Community, Los Angeles.  We worked to assemble close to 4,000 packages of non-perishable food items to be given out to various people and organizations in Los Angeles County.  I had a lot of fun interacting with other members from FLOC and other volunteers in the community as we worked tirelessly to create these food packages.  It was amazing to see so many people come together for a common cause and to realize that, at the end of the day, we had helped make a difference in the community.  I absolutely loved this opportunity and I know that I will soon be going back to the LA Regional Food Bank to volunteer some more.
